Trailer wheel alignment

Professional wheel alignment services for trailers across GTA and Ontario.

Trailer alignment might not always be the first thing on your maintenance list, but ignoring it can cost you more than you’d expect. A misaligned trailer axle makes your tires wear out faster, fuel costs go up, and the extra strain quickly damages your suspension. On the road, your trailer may pull, sway, or dog-track, and that can turn into a safety problem fast. Getting your alignment checked from time to time will helps your trailer run straight, and keeps your bills down.

Bringing over 20 years of experience, our team of mechanics at Axle Spindle handles every type of trailer alignment, from semis to single and tandem axle trailers and even boat trailers. We diagnose all problems with precision and fix them properly. Based in Mississauga, we serve the full GTA and Southern Ontario. Call us or come in, and let’s get your trailer tracking straight.

How Our Trailer Alignment Process Works

Trailer Suspension Alignment and Frame Inspection

Before any adjustments, we do a complete walkthrough of your trailer’s suspension. We closely check leaf springs for cracked leaves, shifted center bolts, or pack fatigue. We also test spring hanger brackets for elongated bolt holes and weld failures, U-bolts and axle seats for looseness or corrosion, and equalizers, torque arms, and bushings for wear. We finally inspect trailer frame for any bends, twists, or collision damage that affects axle geometry.

 Precision Measurement

To find out if an axle is out of square, our specialists use a plum bob or laser to mark the exact center of each wheel hub on the floor. They then use a long tape measure to check the distance from the front hitch (the coupler or kingpin) to the marks for each axle. This reading reveals exactly how many inches an axle has shifted.

Axle Adjustment

If your trailer has adjustable suspension, our trailer axle alignment specialists loosen the adjustment bolts and slide the axle forward or backward until it is square. For trailers with bent axles, we use specialized hydraulic tools and chains to straighten the axle back to the correct camber and toe specifications, verified with precision measuring equipment. When the trailer frame has shifted or sustained damage, we perform trailer straightening first to align it against a true, square frame.

Final Torque and Verification

Once the axles are all set, our mechanics torque all hardware to manufacturer specifications. We then perform a final check to confirm whether the trailer tracks straight, the thrust angle is correct, and to make sure there is no pull to either side.

How Much Does Trailer Alignment Cost in Ontario?

Trailer alignment costs in Ontario typically start at $150 for a single axle, $250 for a tandem, and $350+ for a multi-axle semi. While these are standard rates, the final trailer wheel alignment cost can increase if your trailer has seized bolts from road salt, bent hangers, or worn bushings that must be replaced before the alignment can be finished. Call us for a specific quote on your trailer type. We will give you a straight number before any work begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

Aim to get your trailer aligned every 6 to 12 months or every 20,000 kilometres. Regular checks are the best way to catch issues caused by tight turns, hitting curbs, or heavy loads before they ruin your tires. You should book an inspection immediately if you notice your trailer “dog-tracking” (driving sideways), uneven tire wear, or if you’ve recently hit a deep pothole. Sticking to this schedule keeps your trailer pulling straight and saves you from buying expensive new tires prematurely.

Technically, yes, but it will not hold. If the suspension hardware that keeps the axle in position is worn, such as loose u-bolts, cracked spring hangers, or failed bushings, the axle will quickly go out of alignment under load. We always perform a pre-alignment inspection and will identify any necessary repairs before moving forward.

Dog-tracking (or crabbing) occurs when the trailer’s rear axles push in a slightly different direction than the front axles, causing the trailer to travel diagonally rather than straight behind the truck. It is usually caused by a misaligned thrust angle on tandem axle trailers. Trailer axle alignment corrects the thrust angle so that all axles push in the same direction and the trailer tracks straight.

A standard trailer wheel alignment, including a pre-inspection, typically takes 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the number of axles and the condition of the suspension components. It generally takes longer if the trailer is multi-axle or if the suspension parts are severely worn.
